Doing the thing that scares you

A lot of my clients recently have been struggling with scary decisions: should I ask my friend out and turn our friendship into a romance? If I do and the answer is no, will that harm our friendship? Should I leave my job and pursue a career dream, even if it means significant financial upheaval? Should I end a harmful or deeply unsatisfying relationship? Will I end up regretting it?

Life offers countless “scary things” for us to do, or not do. If you spend time in discernment about the issue, listening to yourself and the people close to you, you might find it easier to “take the leap.” You and I could talk about it to help you gain further insight, and to prepare you for some of the challenges and painful changes that will take place. Even if it leads to upheaval and frustration, if you “take the leap” with the goal of improving your life, or learning about yourself, or just experimenting with being more in charge of your own life, you might rejoice in the adventure and learn that you are far stronger than you ever imagined.
